It goes without saying that Finland can get pretty cold during the winter. On my recent visit I was asked to have a look at the temperatures and comment on how I would build a disease management strategy.
The below charts show days when we had days with periods below 3 degrees for a consecutive 4 hours since 1986.
So much like the light in Finland Temperature is much more of an on / off thing than in the UK.
Both present challenges In the UK we hover around in the almost growth / high disease pressure period for a good 6 months of the year whereas in Finland it's much more clear cut in growth / out of growth.
How will the continuingly changing climate impact that? That's a very big question.
