Continental shift, insights into the sustainability work for Ryder cup 2031

It's been a busy year for the Catalonia (Spain) based Camiral Golf & Wellness resort, between winning the 2025 International Environmental Golf Course in the Golf Environment awards and being announced as hosts for the 2031 Ryder cup its a wonder how they fit the sustainability work in.

It can be challenging to ensure the day job gets done, and plan and execute award winning sustainability and biodiversity projects, let alone start planning for the 2031 Ryder cup!

In a great series of short video’s “Syngenta Green Report” allows you to get under the skin of the environmental work, including a complete fairway warm season species composition transition, to reduce water requirements.

You can read more and watch the videos on the website or YouTube here.

It’s always great to hear what others are doing and hopefully get inspired as to what is possible, even if only in some smaller way on our own sites.

Whilst the agronomic conditions facing a Golf club in southern Spain are clearly different than those that are faced here, some similarities can be drawn.

Water is becoming a bigger part of the sustainability mission, with management of water use (reducing inputs) and managing water run off being written into guidance for governmental and advisory bodies up and down the land.

Biodiversity is also a key topic, having habitats that support a broader range of diverse species.

Lot’s of interesting ideas and initiatives highlighted by the staff and agronomy team:

I’ve never seen a turtle trap before, which allows them to separate and release the native turtles but remove the invasive Florida turtles which can outcompete the native species.

Hope you enjoy watching them and find some take aways for your site!
