{"id":1261,"date":"2021-06-19T07:22:00","date_gmt":"2021-06-19T07:22:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/greencastadvisory.com\/blog\/managing-dollar-spot\/"},"modified":"2022-08-30T14:13:19","modified_gmt":"2022-08-30T14:13:19","slug":"managing-dollar-spot","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/greencastadvisory.com\/it\/blog\/managing-dollar-spot\/","title":{"rendered":"Managing Dollar Spot"},"content":{"rendered":"\r\n<p>I&#8217;ve been asked a few times this month for best practice advice for <a href=\"https:\/\/www.syngentaturf.co.uk\/turf-disease\/dollar-spot\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Dollar spot<\/a>.<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n<p>To start with I&#8217;ve put together a basic <a href=\"https:\/\/greencastadvisory.com\/2021\/06\/19\/dollar-spot-frequently-asked-questions\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Dollar Spot FAQ<\/a> to go over the symptoms and drivers.<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\">\r\n<figure class=\"aligncenter is-resized\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.syngentaturf.co.uk\/sites\/g\/files\/zhg631\/f\/styles\/syngenta_large\/public\/media\/2020\/07\/02\/1024x716px_dollar_spot_sclerotinia_homoeocarpa.jpg?itok=hhj2H3Cs\" alt=\"Dollar Spot (sclerotinia homoeocarpa)\" width=\"694\" height=\"485\" \/><\/figure>\r\n<\/div>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Establish the risk<\/h4>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\r\n<li>Have you seen it on your site before?<\/li>\r\n<li>Are you fescue dominant?<\/li>\r\n<li>Are you in a mild area of the country?<\/li>\r\n<li>Do you see high humidity?<\/li>\r\n<\/ul>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<p>If the answer to those questions is yes then next we should&#8230;&#8230;<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Establish your tolerance level<\/h4>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<p>As with most turf challenges now we need to be ahead of the game and establishing what we&#8217;re prepared to tolerate. We can then put plans in place to avoid the problem.<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<p>If you are prepared to tolerate some Dollar Spot and your in an area that doesn&#8217;t see high humidity and you don&#8217;t have Fescue dominant swards then you&#8217;ll probably be absolutely fine by delivering all of the cultural controls listed in the Dollar Spot FAQ blog.<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\r\n<li>Remove dew<\/li>\r\n<li>Increase nutrition<\/li>\r\n<li>Overseed with resistant cultivars<\/li>\r\n<li>Control thatch<\/li>\r\n<\/ul>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<p>If that alone doesn&#8217;t offer enough then integration of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.syngentaturf.co.uk\/product\/crop-protection\/hicure\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Hicure<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.syngentaturf.co.uk\/product\/turf-management\/pigment\/ryder\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Ryder<\/a> into your programme during this summer period will help relieve stress and keep the plant healthy enough to withstand a little more pressure.<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<p>However, the high pressure sites, with high fescue content and high humidity are at certainly at risk &#8211; and this pretty much sums up Devon and Cornwall.<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\">\r\n<figure class=\"aligncenter size-large\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-5805\" src=\"https:\/\/greencastadvisory.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/06\/image-10.png\" alt=\"\" \/>\r\n<figcaption>Saturday 19th June 2021 &#8211; Humidity set to rise again for some areas of the country<\/figcaption>\r\n<\/figure>\r\n<\/div>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Low tolerance + high risk = <a href=\"https:\/\/www.syngentaturf.co.uk\/product\/turf-management\/fungicide\/instrata-elite\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Instrata Elite<\/a><\/h4>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<p>Instrata Elite is great on Dollar spot but you&#8217;ll probably need to build a programme, Look to the commencement of pressure and the <a href=\"https:\/\/turf.unl.edu\/turfinfo\/5-16-Dolla-Spot-Model.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Smith-Kerns model<\/a> is great for that Spreadsheet link here&#8230;.<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<p>The model recommends a first preventative application at 20% pressure threshold and then every 28 days (although I&#8217;d bring that in to 21 days if zero tolerance is your true objective) when in sustained pressure.<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<p>Instrata Elite will need additional support from our competitors so look to the labels and talk to your supplier about good programmes, put a plan together and watch the model.
