They are bound at either end by a darker reddish-brown band separating the affected tissue from the healthy green tissue. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\"><figure class=\"aligncenter is-resized\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.syngentaturf.co.uk\/sites\/g\/files\/zhg631\/f\/styles\/syngenta_large\/public\/media\/2020\/07\/02\/1024x716px_dollar_spot_lesion_early_stage.jpg?itok=1JvPxz4u\" alt=\"Dollar Spot lesion - early stage\" width=\"542\" height=\"379\"\/><figcaption>Lesions on leaf<\/figcaption><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p>It evolves into Small (dollar size) spots of bleached turf occur on close mown grass. The spots may coalesce to form large areas of affected turf. White mycelium may be present on affected areas on dewy mornings, which disappear as the leaves dry.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\"><figure class=\"aligncenter is-resized\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.syngentaturf.co.uk\/sites\/g\/files\/zhg631\/f\/styles\/syngenta_large\/public\/media\/2020\/07\/02\/1024x716px_dollar_spot_petera18dsc.jpg?itok=FEczVK_Y\" alt=\"Dollar Spot\" width=\"580\" height=\"404\"\/><figcaption>Symptoms on a green<\/figcaption><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\"><figure class=\"aligncenter is-resized\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.syngentaturf.co.uk\/sites\/g\/files\/zhg631\/f\/styles\/syngenta_large\/public\/media\/2020\/07\/02\/1024x716px_dollar_spot_wentworth_fescue_fairway.jpg?itok=IkqcAwfr\" alt=\"Dollar Spot - Fescue\" width=\"495\" height=\"346\"\/><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Where is Dollar Spot found?<\/strong><br>Any area of turf, especially golf greens, tees, fairways and bowling greens. In the UK, fescue dominant swards are at high risk of infection. <em>Poa annua<\/em> grass can also be severely affected.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>When is Dollar Spot likely to attack turf?<\/strong><br>During the summer months, when the daytime temperatures are above 20\u00baC. Humid or thundery conditions can encourage an outbreak, as can heavy dews. Low fertility swards are at more risk from Dollar Spot.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The Smith-Kerns model is a great tool to help predict damage and times to treat.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Historic pressure periods can also be identified using the Greencast historic disease tool <a href=\"https:\/\/www.syngentaturf.co.uk\/service\/historic-disease-information\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">(link here &#8230;)<\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Effects of Dollar Spot<\/strong><br>The spots reduce the aesthetic appearance of fine turf, such as golf greens and create an uneven surface causing non-uniform ball roll. On longer cut areas, such as tees, playability may not be affected (unless the outbreak is very severe) but the aesthetic appearance will be reduced.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>High Risk Situations<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>Heavy morning dew.<br>Daytime temperatures 20\u00baC and above.<\/li><li>Low fertility situations.<\/li><li>Excessively low cutting heights.<\/li><li>High humidity<\/li><li>Fescue dominant sward, although there is variation among subspecies and cultivars. <em>Poa annua<\/em> grass is also susceptible.<\/li><li>Slowly growing turf.<\/li><li>Moisture retentive turf surface.<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\"><figure class=\"aligncenter is-resized\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.syngentaturf.co.uk\/sites\/g\/files\/zhg631\/f\/styles\/syngenta_large\/public\/media\/2020\/07\/02\/1024x716px_dollar_spot_bent_close.jpg?itok=jiA7EPjY\" alt=\"Dollar Spot - Bent grass\" width=\"434\" height=\"304\"\/><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Integrated Turf Management<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>Dollar spot can be more severe when the surface is moist but the underlying soil dry. Therefore, irrigation should be infrequent and to the depth of the rootzone. Air movement over the surface should be encouraged.<\/li><li>Dollar spot is more prevalent under low fertility, especially nitrogen. Therefore, adequate fertiliser should be applied to prevent low nutrition occurring.<\/li><li>Soil compaction and the presence of thatch layers have also been shown to promote dollar spot.
