If the fairy ring isn&rsquo;t impacting playability &#8211; do you need to do it?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Management by masking<\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p>I talked alot about masking fairy ring, which i couldn&rsquo;t really explain to well in that format, but fundamentaly its:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>Don&rsquo;t allow soil to become hydrophobic &#8211; once it&rsquo;s dried out it will be very difficult to re wet<\/li><li>Use wetting agents &#8211; this will help the fairy ring \u00ab\u00a0recieve\u00a0\u00bb water when applied<\/li><li>Use nitrogen to visually mask the green rings<\/li><li>Manage organic matter content<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\"><figure class=\"aligncenter size-large\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/greencastadvisory.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/06\/image-34.png\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-3659\"\/><figcaption><a href=\"https:\/\/www.telegraph.co.uk\/cricket\/2017\/09\/06\/lords-struck-fairy-rings-disfiguring-pitch-square-damp-august\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Daily Telegraph 2017<\/a><\/figcaption><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\">However if you do need to manage it with a fungicide:<\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p>Ideally at application time you&rsquo;d:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>Punch holes<\/li><li>Use a wetting agent<\/li><li>Water in<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>However I understand that can cause problems in cricket &#8211; put simply &#8211; the more of the above you can do the more effective the treatment will be.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Doing this at the end of the playing season once play is over could also have a positive impact on the intensity of the fairy ring the following year and a well applied <a href=\"https:\/\/www.greencast.co.uk\/product\/turf-management\/fungicide\/heritage-0\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">HeritageMaxx<\/a> application at the end of the season would be my preference over a poorly applied one with optimum timings.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Thanks again Brian &#8211; and I&rsquo;m always here if you want to invite me along again.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Thanks to the TurfCareBlog team for inviting me along to their turf chat tonight on Fairy Rings.
