Leather Jackets coming out of the ground in their hundreds. To the point where they are pouring into bunkers.<\/p>\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\"><figure class=\"aligncenter size-large\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/greencastadvisory.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/04\/92245781_917173572086678_4169777915673706496_n.jpg?fit=768%2C1024&#038;ssl=1\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-2981\"\/><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\"><figure class=\"aligncenter size-large\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/greencastadvisory.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/04\/92469767_855161985000661_91415621526355968_n.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-2983\"\/><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p>I&rsquo;m not sure I remember a situation like this ever &#8211; The images people are sending me are frightening.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>So why are we seeing this countrywide surfacing of Leather Jackets? To be honest I don&rsquo;t know &#8211; but the benefit of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.greencast.co.uk\/turf-pest-tracker\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">PestTracker data<\/a> is we saw last year that the spring hatch was pretty big and we can begin to see how close we are to a spring hatch and I suspect that with this weather we&rsquo;re only a few days away. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>I would guess again that they are pretty close to pupating and something different (and let&rsquo;s face it this is a very different year to normal) is going on enabling them to come to the surface.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-video wp-block-embed is-type-video is-provider-videopress\"><div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\">\n<iframe title=\"VideoPress Video Player\" aria-label='VideoPress Video Player' width='566' height='1000' src='https:\/\/videopress.com\/embed\/m0zVjVZI?preloadContent=metadata&amp;hd=1&amp;cover=1' frameborder='0' allowfullscreen><\/iframe><script src='https:\/\/v0.wordpress.com\/js\/next\/videopress-iframe.js?m=1633526814'><\/script>\n<\/div><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>So if this is different phenomenome then why is it happening? <\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>Different watering pattern?<\/li><li>Different feed program?<\/li><li>Lack of foot traffic?<\/li><li>Less mowing?<\/li><li>Something else?<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>Let me know your thoughts &#8211; I&rsquo;d be fascinated to know what you think &#8211; you never know this could be a clue into getting to grips with this pest.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<iframe loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/docs.google.com\/forms\/d\/e\/1FAIpQLSfdRHOqviiBHukczdJPUqobkIDfSfwrt1QSD0yKlgEqmDVkVQ\/viewform?embedded=true\" marginheight=\"0\" marginwidth=\"0\" width=\"640\" height=\"1125\" frameborder=\"0\">Loading\u2026<\/iframe>\n\n\n\n<p>One great question I did get was &#8211; do you think I can overseed? I&rsquo;m worried about seedlings getting eaten. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>My best guess is the the Leather Jackets your seeing are about to go into their pupae stage and will be hatching sometime in the next 2 weeks. So I would make the most of this period of no golf and go for it. Particularly if you&rsquo;ve seen significant damage &#8211; you should have some open spaces for the seed to germinate in.
